Student Council committees meet at 6:30 tonight in the LGI and Full Council meets at 7:00. Makeup meeting is Tuesday afternoon at 3:05 in B113.  Make sure to make one of these meetings or see Mrs. Yosko.  Reach Out and Teacher Secret Pal committees are reminded to turn in a card for your pal by Tuesday of each week. 

The FTA meeting this week will be only for those interested in competing at District Convention. Please meet in Mrs. Riggs' room A103 at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday.

PTSA has started their Reflections Program. The theme this year is “I Can Make a Difference by....”. The categories for entry are literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography, and film/video. You can pick up an entry form in the Student Activities Office. The deadline is October 31st .

Student Council Fall Convention is Wednesday, October 10, at the Beaumont Civic Center.  All members attending are asked to meet in B113 at 6:50.  The bus will leave at 7:00 a.m. The following Student Council members must turn in an emergency card to attend: Austin A, Brent W, Kelsey B, Shelby L, Dylan B, and Caitlin J. See Mrs. Yosko if you need a form.

Key Club Officers will meet Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m. in Mrs. Singleton's room, C-109.  Please attend. Committee chair applications are due at this meeting.

Sophomores & Juniors taking the PSAT test:  There will be a presentation on October 11 th at 7:00 a.m. in the LGI room for you to attend.  Mrs. DeRon & Mr. Sims will be going over information you will need to know for PSAT.

Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors:  Let your parents know about the parent/counselor meeting on Monday, October 15th .  It will be held in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. and will cover credit information, graduation requirements and preparation for college.  A representative from all Lamar campuses will be there with college information and to answer any questions.

Seniors: if you have not received a post card in the mail from with an appointment to take your yearbook picture, please call the Leo Weeks Studio.

Junior students:  Several community organizations will sponsor leadership events throughout the year for high school students.  In an effort to identify good leaders, the counseling office will need to have a leadership involvement form from interested juniors.  The forms may be picked up in the counseling office.  Also juniors interested in leadership training should apply to be a RYLA delegate representing PN-G.  The Rotary club will send a boy and girl from Groves along with a boy and girl from Port Neches.  The camp will be held in January.  There is no cost to the student and transportation will be provided.  Deadline to apply is Monday, October 22 nd .  Leadership Involvement Forms will need to be completed and can be picked up from the counseling office.

Girl's basketball tryouts begin October 17th at 3:15. If you are interested please see Coach Ansel, Coach Deckert, or Coach Fesco for more information. 

This week is spirit week. Dress up days are as follows: Tuesday – Under the Sea; Wednesday – Blast to the Past; Thursday – Nederland Nerd Day; and Friday – Extreme Spirit Day. Pictures will be taken each morning at 7:30 in B 113. Student and teacher dress up winners, for each day, will be announced at the pep rally on Friday.

Student Council is sponsoring a Pride and Patriotism contest for all high school students. There are two ways to enter the contest. You may type an essay entitled “Why I Am an American Patriot” in 500 words or less, and must include a cover sheet with your name, grade, and school, or you may draw a poster of standard size, with original work, and no computer generated entries. The deadline to enter is Friday, October 19 th . All entries must be turned into Mrs. Yosko in room B 113. Local prizes are 1st place $25; 2nd place $20; and 3rd place $15. Both the 1st place essay and poster will move onto the district contest. District prizes are 1st place $75; 2nd place $50; and 3rd place $25. The Student Council's Energy Committee is collecting old, used prescription eyeglasses for the Lion's Club. Please bring glasses to the main office, the cafeteria, or Mrs. Yosko's room B 113 between October 1 st and October 26 th .

Juniors:  The PSAT test will be given at PN-G on Saturday, October 20 th .  All juniors taking this test will be competing for National Merit Scholars Awards for 2008-09.  Registration for juniors will begin today.  Sophomores may register beginning Monday, October 8 th .  The last day to register will be Friday, October 12 th .  Space is limited to about 200 students.  You may register in the counselors' office and the cost is $16.00 – cash only.  No checks will be accepted.  Any sophomores planning to take AP U.S. History next year should take this test.

Any student interested in the Voice of Democracy Competition may pick up applications in the counselors' office.  Freshman through seniors may compete in this essay competition.  The first place winner will receive $500, and the second place winner will receive $300. The deadline for the application, essay and oral speech is October 22 nd .
