PTA will be selling foam tomahawks during lunches on Friday. The cost is $10. Everyone is asked to bring the tomahawk to the Nederland game on Friday.
Attention spellers! Come by room B 109 for your first meeting at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12. Spelling lists will be distributed at this time.
Students who received a packet for a letter jacket will be measured on Tuesday, October 16 th and Wednesday, October 17 th during lunches. You do not need to pay for anything unless you are ordering extra patches.
Balfour will be on campus today during lunches to take orders for senior rings.
Any boy who is not in football athletics and would like to try out for the basketball team must have a completed physical form and be passing all of their classes. Tryouts will begin Wednesday, October 24 after school. Physical forms are available from the field house training room.
Students are reminded to buy a paper airplane during the lunch periods at the front of the cafeteria. They are 25 cents and you can purchase as many as you want. At the pep rally on Friday, we will launch the planes at the target in the middle of the gym floor and see who wins.
BPA needs your donated books. The Groves Public Library is conducting their annual book sale. Bring your books to C113 or see Mrs. Amsden. Also, BPA is conducting a Community Service Project for the Humane Society. Donations of Purina dog and cat food will be accepted. They are also in need to newspapers. Bring all items to C 113.
Remember, the drawing for the Criminal Justice Club will be today after school, so get your guesses turned into the CATE office. This week's clue is “With school renovations set to begin, this person might use their telekinetic powers to get things started. As the first published novel of the author, it is banned in most public schools. Hope you don't suffer the same fate at the next school dance because “They're gonna laugh at you ””.
There will be Criminal Justice Club meeting on Wednesday, October 17 th immediately after school in room C102. All members are encouraged to attend as we will be selecting officers and signing up for upcoming activities.
Attention Seniors!! If you missed the first SAT for this school year, you really need to register for the November 3 rd test. It will be given on the PN-G campus but you must register online at www.collegeboard.com or come by the counseling office for a registration packet. Late registration begins October 11 at a cost of $65. The next testing date is December 1 st .
PTSA has started their Reflections Program. The theme this year is “I Can Make a Difference by...”. The categories for entry are literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography, and film/video. You can pick up an entry form in the Student Activities Office. The deadline is October 31st.
Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors: Let your parents know about the parent/counselor meeting on Monday, October 15 th . It will be held in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. for senior parents and 7 p.m. for sophomore and junior parents and will cover credit information, graduation requirements and preparation for college. A representative from all Lamar campuses will be there with college information and to answer any questions .
Junior students: Several community organizations will sponsor leadership events throughout the year for high school students. In an effort to identify good leaders, the counseling office will need to have a leadership involvement form from interested juniors. The forms may be picked up in the counseling office. Also juniors interested in leadership training should apply to be a RYLA delegate representing PN-G. The Rotary club will send a boy and girl from Groves along with a boy and girl from Port Neches. The camp will be held in January. There is no cost to the student and transportation will be provided. Deadline to apply is Monday, October 22 nd . Leadership Involvement Forms will need to be completed and can be picked up from the counseling office.
Girl's basketball tryouts begin October 17th at 3:15. If you are interested please see Coach Ansel, Coach Deckert, or Coach Fesco for more information.
This week is spirit week. Tomorrow is Extreme Spirit Day. Pictures will be taken each morning at 7:30 in B 113. Student and teacher dress up winners, for each day, will be announced at the pep rally on Friday.
Student Council is sponsoring a Pride and Patriotism contest for all high school students. There are two ways to enter the contest. You may type an essay entitled “Why I Am an American Patriot” in 500 words or less, and must include a cover sheet with your name, grade, and school, or you may draw a poster of standard size, with original work, and no computer generated entries. The deadline to enter is Friday, October 19 th . All entries must be turned into Mrs. Yosko in room B 113. Local prizes are 1 st place $25; 2 nd place $20; and 3red place $15. Both the 1 st place essay and poster will move onto the district contest. District prizes are 1 st place $75; 2 nd place $50; and 3 rd place $25. The Student Council's Energy Committee is collecting old, used prescription eyeglasses for the Lion's Club. Please bring glasses to the main office, the cafeteria, or Mrs. Yosko's room B 113 between October 1 st and October 26 th .
Juniors: The PSAT test will be given at PN-G on Saturday, October 20 th . All juniors taking this test will be competing for National Merit Scholars Awards for 2008-09. Registration for juniors will begin today. Sophomores may register beginning Monday, October 8 th . The last day to register will be Friday, October 12 th . Space is limited to about 200 students. You may register in the counselors' office and the cost is $16.00 – cash only. No checks will be accepted. Any sophomores planning to take AP U.S. History next year should take this test.
Any student interested in the Voice of Democracy Competition may pick up applications in the counselors' office. Freshman through seniors may compete in this essay competition. The first place winner will receive $500, and the second place winner will receive $300. The deadline for the application, essay and oral speech is October 22 nd .
Congratulations to the Rock-A-Noos for defeating Lumberton last night 3 games to 2. We are undefeated in district play with a 10-0 record and have clinched the District Championship with 3 more district games to play.
